How to Properly Maintain and Service a Packaging Machine

Friendly Reminder from Minpack Technology (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.: As the core equipment for automated seed production, packaging machines require proper, standardized, and timely maintenance and upkeep to ensure long-term stable operation, extend service life, guarantee packaging accuracy and sealing quality, and reduce failure rates and maintenance costs. To keep the equipment operating efficiently, reliably, and safely at all times, the following maintenance and upkeep procedures must be strictly followed during both daily use and periods of downtime:

1. Daily Cleaning and Hygiene Maintenance
After each production run, promptly clean seed residues, dust, and foreign matter from the discharge chute, metering plate, seed-counting plate, hopper, and sealing area to keep both the interior and exterior of the machine clean and tidy. The use of corrosive cleaning agents is strictly prohibited to prevent residual material from caking and blocking the channels, compromising metering accuracy, or causing poor sealing and material entrapment. Maintain a clean and dry packaging environment to improve the pass rate of finished packaged products.
2. Regular lubrication and maintenance of moving parts
Regularly lubricate critical moving components such as equipment bearings, guideways, sliders, chains, gears, and drive shafts with dedicated lubricating oil or grease to ensure smooth operation, minimize mechanical wear, and reduce operating noise. Establish lubrication intervals based on usage frequency to prevent damage caused by dry running due to insufficient lubrication, thereby effectively extending the service life of the mechanical structure.
3. Precise Calibration and Maintenance of the Metrology System
Regularly conduct professional calibration of metering systems such as count-based, weight-based, and volumetric cup-type systems; inspect the operating condition of sensors, photoelectric switches, and weighing modules; and ensure that each bag contains the correct number of seeds, maintains stable weight, and stays within specified tolerance limits. In particular, after changing seed varieties or adjusting packaging specifications, recalibration is mandatory to ensure that packaging accuracy meets the company’s production requirements.
4. Inspection and Timely Replacement of Wear Parts
Regularly inspect wear-prone components such as belts, timing belts, cutting blades, heating elements, silicone strips, pressure rollers, and sealing films, and check for signs of wear, aging, or deformation. If severe wear, uneven sealing, inability to cut the film, or air leakage at the seal is detected, these components must be replaced promptly to prevent minor issues from escalating and to minimize production losses caused by unexpected breakdowns and equipment downtime.
5. Safe Maintenance of Electrical and Pneumatic Systems
Regularly inspect electrical wiring, PLCs, touch screens, motors, pneumatic cylinders, solenoid valves, air preparation units, and other components to ensure secure connections, stable voltage, proper air pressure, and the absence of air or electrical leaks. Clean dust from inside the electrical cabinet to maintain effective heat dissipation and prevent equipment malfunctions caused by aging wiring, sensor failures, or unstable air pressure.
6. Standard Operating Procedures and Shutdown Maintenance
Operate the equipment in strict accordance with the operating manual for startup, commissioning, production, shutdown, and emergency stop procedures. Unauthorized operations, overspeed running, and forced material feeding are strictly prohibited. Non-professional personnel must not arbitrarily disassemble or modify the equipment’s structure or parameters. Prior to prolonged shutdowns, perform thorough cleaning, lubrication, rust prevention, and power-off protection to ensure that the equipment can be quickly returned to normal production upon restart.

Implementing a comprehensive maintenance program that integrates daily upkeep, scheduled servicing, and standardized operating procedures can significantly enhance the operational stability and production efficiency of packaging machines, reduce overall operating costs for enterprises, and provide continuous, reliable, and high-performance equipment support for various seed-packaging production lines.
